Stevens Point author Patrick Rothfuss to star in new show on Travel Channel

Stevens Point-based author Patrick Rothfuss is hosting a new show, “Myth or Monster” that will can be seen on Travel Channel.

STEVENS POINT - Stevens Point-based author Patrick Rothfuss is hosting a new television show that will examine the world’s most enduring myths.

“Myth or Monster” will debut at 9 p.m. on Friday on Travel Channel. According to a webpage for the show, Rothfuss “dives into the past and consults with present-day eyewitnesses to expose the truth behind stories long believed to be sheer fantasy.”

In the first episode, “Mothman,” Rothfuss will investigate, following new evidence of a modern-day sighting, the legend of an 8-foot-tall man-bird hybrid that has haunted a small West Virginia town for over 50 years.

Rothfuss is the author of "The Kingkiller Chronicle" series, which tells the story of Kvothe, a magically gifted young man who grows to be the most notorious wizard his world has ever seen. The first book in the series, “The Name of the Wind,” was published in 2007 and became a New York Times best-seller. The second book, “The Wise Man’s Fear,” was published in 2011 and reached No. 1 on the New York Times Hardcover Fiction Best Seller List. Rothfuss is working on a third book, “The Doors of Stone,” which has no release date yet.

In October 2015, it was announced that Rothfuss had reached an agreement with Lionsgate on a multi-platform rights deal for "The Kingkiller Chronicle," a deal that will see the series developed simultaneously into movies, television series and video games.

Rothfuss is also the founder of Worldbuilders, the non-profit organization which supports Heifer International, a charity organization working to end hunger and poverty around the world by providing livestock and training to struggling communities.
