UWSP hockey players pick up WIAC honors

Eight UWSP men's hockey players earn honors  

MADISON - UW-Stevens Point sophomore Ryan Bittner and seniors Lawrence Cornellier and Kyle Sharkey recently earned first-team WIAC honors for this hockey season.

Seniors Jacob Barber and Mark Bittner, junior Max Milosek and sophomore Stephan Beauvais were honorable mention selections. Sophomore defenseman Ethan Strong was the Pointers' selection to the All-Sportsmanship team.

Sharkey gathered All-WIAC honors for the fourth-straight year, earning first-team accolades for the second time. Sharkey was third on the team in points with 31, tallying eight goals and a WIAC-leading 23 assists.

Cornellier earned first-team honors for the second consecutive season. The senior forward led the WIAC in points after recording 40 in 27 games this season. Cornellier also leads the league with 23 goals and was tied for second in the country averaging 0.85 goals per game.

Ryan Bittner earned All-WIAC honors for the first time and tallied 15 points this year. The sophomore finished third in the WIAC in points by a defensemen after netting four goals and 11 assists.

Beauvais was named honorable mention for the second consecutive season. The sophomore blue liner led the WIAC in points by defensemen with five goals and 12 assists. Beauvais is also tied for third in plus/minus rating with a plus-21 on the season.

Milosek earned All-WIAC honors for the second time, after being named honorable mention a season ago. Milosek finished third in the WIAC with 493 saves. He compiled a 17-3-3 record, good for seventh in the country in winning percentage.

Barber earned All-WIAC honors for the first time. He was third in the conference with 37 points in 26 games. Barber was also tied for second with 17 goals and 20 assists. Barber is currently ranked 19th in the country, averaging 1.42 points per game.

Mark Bittner picked up All-WIAC honors for the first time in his career. He tallied five assists on the season, and has been a staple on the back end.

Strong posted eight points on the year including three goals and five assists. He had a three-game point streak from Dec. 10 to Jan. 7 and recorded an assist in each of UWSP's WIAC semifinal wins over UW-Superior.

Four UWSP women's hockey players honored 

MADISON - The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team landed four players on the WIAC all-conference squads.

Sophomore Cara Lemirande repeated as a first-team selection and was joined by junior Ellie Punnett. Senior Meredith Ingbretson and sophomore goalkeeper Sydney Conley were named to the honorable mention team. Ingbretson also picked up an All-Sportsmanship team honor.

Lemirande led the Pointers in scoring with 26 points on the season. She scored a team-high 17 goals, six of which came on the power play, and added nine assists.

Punnett picked up her second career all conference honor after an honorable mention nod in 2016. She was second on the team with 21 points on the season. Punnett had a team-high 17 assists and added four goals.

Ingbretson earned her first conference honor after providing the Pointers with valuable leadership as the lone senior. She scored nine goals and had seven assists for the third-highest point total on the team.

Conley received her second career league honor after being a first-team selection a season ago. This year, Conley played in net 19 times with an 8-7-2 record in just under 1,100 minutes played. She recorded three shutouts in the season.
