Wausau West's Brooke Jaworski is the first freshman honored by the WISTCA as an athlete of the year.

WAUSAU - Wausau West freshman Brooke Jaworski was named the female athlete of the year by the Wisconsin Track Coaches Association this week, becoming the first freshman to earn the honor since the award's inception in 1989.

Coleman junior Josh Pillath, who competed in the 110- and 300 meter hurdles, the high jump and discus at the WIAA state track meet in June, was the male athlete of the year. He is the second winner from a Division 3 program, joining Andrew Rock, who won the award in 2000 as a member of the Stratford track team.

Jaworski won the Division 1 girls 200- and 400 meter finals during the state meet, setting a state record in the 400 in 54.33 seconds, nearly a half second better than the previous mark set in 2015.

The time also matches former Milwaukee North standout Tasha Allen as the fastest 400 run by a Wisconsin high school athlete in any race.

Jaworski also was part of the Warriors' state championship 1,600 relay team that set a state record in 3:50.75, cutting more than two seconds off the previous mark.

Jaworski, who also set broke Suzy Favor-Hamilton's  Wisconsin Valley Conference record in the 400 this spring, is one of 14 boys or girls athletes to earn all-state honors by the in three events

Athens' Autumn Wickman earned all-state honors in the girls 200 and 400. D.C. Everest's Konner Fierek earned the honor in the boys 110 hurdles and as a member of the Evergreens 800 relay team.

Pillath won the Division 4 hudles and high jump and was second in the 300 hurdles and third in the discus and helped Coleman earn a share of the Division 3 boys state title with Marathon and Wild Rose.
