PLOVER - Police have requested additional charges be filed against a doctor already accused of sexually assaulting at least seven female patients at a clinic in Plover.

Wilton Calderon, 45, of Old Lyme, Connecticut, worked for several years as a doctor at the Ministry Medical Group Plover clinic at 2401 Plover Road. He left the organization in January 2015, according to Geoffrey Huys, a spokesman for Ministry Health Care.

Calderon is accused of fondling and groping the seven women referenced in a criminal complaint filed in December, and is accused of rubbing himself against several of them in a sexual manner during routine physical exams. He faces four felony counts of third-degree sexual assault and six misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree sexual assault.

Police have sent new reports to the Portage County District Attorney’s Office and asked for one additional charge of third-degree sexual assault and three additional charges of fourth-degree sexual assault, according to Plover Police Chief Dan Ault.

Investigators sought the charges in connection with two additional victims, and more are expected to follow as police continue to work on the case, Ault said. There were seven victims referenced in the criminal complaint filed against Calderon in December. The details of the case were released last week and since then at least 13 more people have contacted police about Calderon, Ault said.

Calderon got his medical license in Wisconsin in 2009, but his license was suspended late last year, according to records from the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services. Calderon still has an active medical license in Connecticut, according to online records from that state.

Calderon was employed by Lawrence + Memorial Medical Group in Connecticut, but that employment recently ended, according to Michael O'Farrell, a spokesman for the medical group. The organization has cooperated with authorities in connection with the matter, O'Farrell said.

The maximum penalty for third-degree sexual assault is 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine, while the maximum penalty for fourth-degree sexual assault is nine months in jail and a $10,000 fine.

Portage County Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Constable acknowledged there were additional chargeable offenses in the case, although she wasn’t sure when those charges might actually be filed.

Constable said she might not file any additional charges against Calderon before he makes his first court appearance, which is scheduled for Jan. 25, because he would need to be notified of the new charges and that could delay the hearing.

Anyone with more information about the case is asked to contact Plover Police Detective Brian Noel at 715-345-5255, ext. 189.
