Plover VFW donates $6,000 to Fisher House Wisconsin

PLOVER – Representatives from Plover VFW Post 10262 paid a visit to the Milwaukee Veterans Affairs campus on Dec. 11 to make a charitable donation to Fisher House Wisconsin. Senior Vice Commander Mike Zynda presented a check for $6,000 to Fisher House Wisconsin President Kim Michalowski at the site where the newest Fisher House will be built in 2015. This is the third straight year that the Plover VFW Post has donated to Fisher House Wisconsin, with a total donation of $21,000.

The Fisher House is an organization that provides a “home away from home” for military and veterans’ families to be close to a loved one during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury. Post representatives explained that donating to Fisher House is very important to them.

“We believe that this is one of the best organizations out there for military families,” Zynda said. “For families that have to travel here, it can cause a hardship and things can get expensive.” The VFW Post has been raising money as the result of an annual charity golf event at Wisconsin River Country Club. Held on the first Saturday following Labor Day, the event has been going strong for more than a decade.

“It’s a wonderful golf outing at a beautiful course,” Michalowski said. “We are very grateful for the relationship we have with the (Plover VFW) Post, and we look forward to participating in this event for years to come.”

Despite having to reschedule this year’s event because of weather issues, more than $10,000 was raised. Aside from their donation to Fisher House Wisconsin, proceeds from the event also were donated to the Salvation Army, Boy Scouts of America and a scholarship fund through the VFW.
