CUSTER – Several fire departments responded to a fire at a local lumber company late Saturday night, but the blaze was extinguished without major damage.

Rosholt Fire District Chief Chris Kluck said a call was received at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday for a fire at Hamel Forest Products, 4025 County Road Y. Kluck said the fire occurred when an ember from a boiler used to dry lumber hit the roof of the building it was located in, starting the roof on fire.

Kluck said the fire was extinguished in about 25 minutes and didn't spread from the area where it started. No one was injured, and there appeared to be no major damage to any equipment in the building.

"Because there's so much dry wood here you, want to have enough (firefighting) resources, and I'm glad we were able to take care of it pretty quickly," Kluck said.

Along with Rosholt, fire departments from Stevens Point, Park Ridge, Rudolph, Plover, Stockton, Hull and Iola all responded to the scene.
